Creating a healthy financial attitude

It’s often relatively easy to see how people feel about money. If you’ve ever been on a committee or club or in a social setting where money needs to be made, allocated, or spent – you may have noticed who feels confident around money and who would rather stay as far away from it as possible!

Money can be a burden or a blessing, incite joy or jealousy, and if we’re not careful, it can distract us from what’s important. But whilst we might be great at spotting these traits in others, it’s easy to overlook them in ourselves.

At SFP, we believe it’s crucial to be coached along our financial journey to grow our resilience and respect for money and how it’s connected to everything we do. We can’t do that alone; we need a qualified, independent financial advisor to help us.

We can help you take money off that emotional pedestal that gives it power over your emotional well-being. We can coach you to position money as a tool to be a blessing, rather than a burden, and help you remain focused on what’s truly important to you.

“If you cannot control your emotions, you cannot control your money.” – Warren Buffett

Stress. Frustration. Worry. These are all words that we have heard associated with money. Placing money on an emotional pedestal can be a slippery slope. Money does not determine our self-worth, nor should it dictate our emotional state.

“Money is only a tool. It will take you where you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver” – Ayn Rand

Your money should be working for you, not the other way around. If money is our end goal, we will always believe that we need more.

Many people think of financial wealth as an end result. However, it is better to view money as something that we use, an impetus for growth and prosperity, a tool. When we consider it this way, we can think, talk and act differently and make the most of what we have.

“You can get more money, but you cannot get more time.” – Jim Rohn

Our time is finite; it is one of the few genuinely precious things we have. Youthfulness can often fool us into complacency. To prolong our time, we must protect our health. Without health, every other aspect of life will suffer – family, career and finances.

Taking care of how you invest your time is possibly the most valuable gift you can give yourself. Value your time and spend it wisely.

Creating and maintaining a healthy financial attitude is not easy, don’t try to do it alone.
